Article Examines Economic Burden of Pediatric Asthma

An article in the October 2018 edition of PharmacoEconomics examined the economic burden of pediatric asthma. Researchers conducted a literature review of articles “reporting on healthcare resource utilization and/or healthcare costs of pediatric asthma.” After reviewing the articles, researchers found “costs for children with asthma were significantly greater than for children without,” and “pediatric asthma imposes a significant economic burden to the US healthcare system.” They also noted pharmacy, inpatient, and outpatient costs were “the primary contributors to healthcare costs.”
