The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health included an article in its July 2019 edition examining the effects of higher concentrations of particulate matter on the quality of life for patients with asthma. Researchers recorded particulate matter concentrations for three hundred adult asthma patients for two weeks. They then gave an Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire to the patients. They found that “patients exposed to higher concentration of PM2.5 had significantly” lower scores on their evaluations. They noted that all domains of quality of life assessed in the questionnaire were affected by higher particulate matter concentrations. They concluded that “improving the quality of life of people with asthma requires an immediate and substantial reduction of air pollution.”
