Webinar recording: Comparing the Focused EPR-3 Updates and the Global Initiatives for Asthma Guidelines

In late 2020, the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) released Focused Updates to its Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma (EPR-3). Since then, there have been several opportunities for asthma stakeholders to learn about the updated recommendations and to consider how they may be incorporated into work with patients with asthma.

One of RAMP’s favorite activities is to bring together Community Health Workers (CHWs), promotoras, and other asthma educators from across the state for peer learning and capacity-building workshops. In an early 2021 meeting, Dr. Andrea Marmor, University of California San Francisco Department of Pediatrics, presented: What do CHWs need to know about asthma guidelines and differences among them? A presentation on the NHLBI Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma (EPR-3) + the 2020 Focused Updates vs. the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) guidelines.

The webinar recording is available to review; Dr. Marmor also shared a summary of the distinctions between the GINA guidelines and the NHLBI 2020 update.

For asthma stakeholders who are also primary care clinicians, you may want to also check out a series of professional education opportunities – including webinars, videos, podcasts and more – developed by NHLBI and its partners about the updated asthma guidelines. Many of the opportunities offer continuing education credit for a limited time.
