In a study in April 2022 edition of Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, researchers reviewed “research progress of oxidative stress in PM2.5-induced asthma.” Both the presence of asthma and PM2.5 exposure increases production of reactive oxygen species, which leads to cellular damage. This damage can lead to respiratory diseases. This study “highlights the therapeutic potentials of antioxidants approaches in” asthma treatment and helps to provide “a new direction for the treatment of the disease.”
