Racial Disparities in Asthma Hospitalizations and Emergency Department Visits Among Medicaid-Enrolled Children 

Hospital Pediatrics’ May 2024 edition includes an article examining how racial disparities can affect hospitalization and emergency department visits for asthma. Using Medicaid claims data, the study included 279,985 children diagnosed with asthma and found Black children with asthma had increased rates of asthma hospitalization and emergency department visits. After adjusting for other characteristics, “the rates for Black children were more than twice the rates for white children.”
