A May 2019 study in Clinical and Experimental Allergy looked to see if managing psychological stress at school could serve as an intervention for asthma. To conduct the study, one hundred and four children were separated into three groups, one which received stress management and coping intervention, one which received an asthma education intervention, and one which received no treatment. Researchers found that children that underwent the stress management intervention had “decreased symptoms of depression, perceived stress, and child-reported symptoms of asthma, and improvements in sleep quality and child-reported asthma control.” They noted it may be feasible to utilize school-based interventions to access hard to reach children with asthma.
