Study Investigates Maternal Asthma and Adverse Perinatal Outcomes

A study, released by the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in July 2025, analyzed 434,068 pregnancies in Alberta, Canada, between October 2009 and December 2018, and found that maternal asthma significantly increases the risk of preterm birth, low birth weight, and cesarean delivery. Women with active asthma during delivery faced the highest risks, followed by those with current or past asthma. This research underscores the importance of close monitoring and asthma management during pregnancy to support healthier birth outcomes.
