California has passed the Tenant Protection Act (AB 1482), which was signed into law on October 13th, 2019. The act prevents rent-gouging and unfair evictions, establishing annual statewide rent cap of 5% + CPI and providing relocation assistance for just cause no-fault evictions. Tenants Together created an AB 1482 Tenant Advocacy Toolkit to provide information on the law as well as sample letters for tenants looking to enforce their rights.
